February 12 Essay Global Warming: Its Damaging Affects on Polar Bears
Imagine falling asleep on a comfortable bed of ice and awakening to the tickling of water at your toes. Imagine the expansion of the rainforest being halted as new breeds of animals begin moving into your neighborhood because they have nowhere else to go. What do you do when you can no longer fly south for the winter because the O-zone is hindering flight? What do you plan to eat when your special supply of food is no longer available? These questions are no longer unanswered with the onset of global warming and its affect on the animal kingdom—especially the polar bears. According to Steven Amstrup, a polar bear specialist in Anchorage, Alaska, global warming is rapidly melting the ice in the Northern regions and slowly killing the polar bears as they struggle to survive. In any event, if we don’t save the polar bears, their hunting season will grow shorter and their constant struggle for survival will eventually lead to death. Comments (1)
